Teresa loves summertime and her favorite thing about her job is seeing all the return guests at the Nantucket Boat Basin where she has worked for many years. Her favorite thing to do on Nantucket is spend time with her large family. She has many sisters and a father here along with her husband and three children. She and her husband have been together for almost as long as she has worked at the Boat Basin! In the off season, Teresa likes to spend her time walking, cooking and sleeping. She also likes to spend time in her native country, the Dominican Republic, when it gets too cold here on the island.
The best thing about working in the accounting department is interacting with my peers. We all help each other every step of the way and the camaraderie is excellent.
My favorite thing to do on ACK is to babysit. I love the idea of giving parents the peace of mind knowing they have someone reliable to take care of their kids while they relax and enjoy our many fabulous restaurants and so many other activities our lovely island has to offer.
I do not have family on Nantucket but I do have lots of friends.
In the off season I mainly relax, but I also travel back to Jamaica when I can to visit family and friends.
Scott MacLellan believes that working with a great staff is important along with being able to meet the needs of our guests. "If I am happy at my job, then the guests can tell and they are happy", says Scott. Scott feels that Nantucket has a lot to offer, especially during the summer. He likes traveling to places like Polpis Harbor and Madaket and beachcombing is a favorite thing of his to do. Scott's family comes to visit their island property for July and August and he has a younger brother who lives and teaches school on the island. The off season for Scott is very quiet and he says he watches too much TV!
While there are many things I love about my job, the best part is the endless variety and teamwork. While I absolutely never know what the day will bring, the quality and dedication of my team is fundamental to our success. The enthusiasm for genuine hospitality that we have created here is what makes it such a wonderful experience for everyone.
My favorite thing to do on Nantucket is to go to the beach with my family. We often go to Jetties on the harborside and spend the whole day. In the winter we seek out warmer climates. My husband, Eric, and I have two amazing kids that share our passion to travel, so we go as often as possible.
There are quite a few things I love about my job! I love the location, my co-workers, the guests and all of the dogs! I get to be on the water, surrounded by boats, good music and I get to see the most beautiful sunsets every night. My co-workers are some of the hardest working people I know and who would do anything to help me. We really have all become a big family at The Cottages. A majority of our guests are returning for 5+ years or more and they love to tell me all of their travel stories and tips! Getting to see all of the dogs that check in is a major highlight as well! In the summer I love going to the beach with my family and friends, having a bbq, enjoying a cocktail or two, dancing at the Muse and enjoying this beautiful island for what it was meant for. In the winter, after I finish working with the pre-schoolers at NES, I like to take my dog Cooper out for super long walks (if it's not super windy). My Kiwi husband Jason and our two daughters Ayla and Cally are my family on island, also, all of my friends here are now family.
Happy loves that he can make decisions independently about the work he does with the support of his manager and coworkers. He loves the team he has worked with for so many years in our Laundry department. His favorite pastime on the island is to go fishing and to meet new people from different cultures. Happy does not have any immediate family on the island but he is surrounded by many long term friends. In the off season, he works at other resorts in other areas of the country such as Utah and Florida.
Aphneil Whyte feels that the comfortable environment of his job is especially enjoyable. He likes being able to give good service to his guests. He enjoys his coworkers and says they are like family to him. Aphneil lives year round on the island with his family and enjoys fishing. In the off season, he likes relaxing and enjoys traveling in New England.
Tania says one of her favorite things about her job is meeting and working with people from different countries. She also enjoys seeing new island visitors, be it colleagues or guests, get captivated by the charm of Nantucket, just as she did many years ago. While Tania does not have any relatives on Nantucket, she considers herself very lucky to be able to count some close friends, who live here, as her island family. Her favorite thing to do on Nantucket is hang at the beach with friends anytime, a thick foggy day can be just as fun as the perfect beach day! In the winter months Tania always uses some of her down time to visit her family in New Zealand, many of which still live in the area she grew up in.
