As the flurry of the holiday season draws near, Nantucket Insiders are often asked how to spend a wintry evening on Nantucket. The island has long been known for both its history and its roots in the arts, and the Nantucket Historical Association offers some fun workshops to combine these interests so dear to both visitors and locals. Whether experiencing the island's holiday season as a guest or if you are here for the year, we recommend trying your hand at creating charming, quintessentially Nantucket items - and just in time for holiday gift giving too! The 2015 Winter Series at the NHA's 1800 House captures the spirit of the holiday season with new evening courses, designed to engage participants in traditional techniques taught by local artisans.

"Our one-day evening classes fit perfectly into any schedule and are great for making a new item for your home or a fun gift for a friend. Whether you need some holiday cards, an ornament for your tree, or a wreath for your door, there's a class for every kind of crafter at the 1800 House."   • Introduction to Letterpress Printing: Holiday Cards, November 30, 4 – 7 PM.

 

Create a set of personalized letterpress cards featuring historic images and typefaces.

Learn the basics of metalworking to create a pair of festive cookie cutters.
